I don't just talk theory. I've lived the process that I teach.
Hi, I'm Heidi Straube.
I believe that there's nothing more important and more satisfying than being true to yourself and living your life from your heart. And I know that this isn't an easy thing to do. How do I know that? Because I've taken the leap and made major changes in my life many times. And most importantly, I'm happy to have done so.
I've created this blog so you can share in some of the most recent leaps I have taken. I'm speaking my thoughts, sharing pictures that express that part of the experience that is wordless, and basically having you walk with me through my ongoing experience. In future, I'll be sharing more stories and examples of how I live what I teach. Why? Because I believe there is nothing more powerful than being able to see a real live person doing you want to do.
But let me also share with you my professional credentials. For the last 20 years I've used my skills as a psychotherapist and corporate consultant, helping people to find the careers and life direction that work from them. Through individual counseling and group retreats, I have helped hundreds of individuals to define what they really want to do in their lives, and overcome the blocks that have kept them from being there. Through corporate teambuilding, executive coaching, and professional development, I have helped CEOs to become better leaders, employees to enjoy and do their work better, and provided inspiration and tools for all to reach their individual and company goals.
I love designing special programs that meet the specific needs of my clients. Knowing that we all are so busy and often need to deliberately take a break in order to figure out what we want, I regularly lead retreats at the beach, overseas, and in other relaxing and exotic locations. These rejuvenating sessions use yoga, meditation, journaling, and other unique tools that I have developed to lead people to their inner Truth, and allow them to come up with next steps for the future.
I've taught inner city teens a career/life direction class using photography and writing to create direction; provided special programs for girls to be able to see mentors and role models of women doing what they may only dream of doing; and taught mother- daughter programs so women can be role models to their teens, as they also consider the steps they want to take at mid-life.
Degrees and licenses? I'm a psychotherapist with an M.Ed in Counseling Psychology from the University of Houston, and a B.A. in Human Relations and Counseling from the University of Massachusetts; also a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Texas. I've taught for national professional associations, such as the American Counseling Association and Association for Humanistic Psychology and been on advisory boards, such as the Women's Studies Program at the University of Houston, WIVLA, for women in the visual and literary arts.
Other items of interest: I'm a professional flutist, lived a musician's life at one time, with the grand finale being my performance with the famous flutist Jean-Pierre Rampal. I'm also a professional photographer, with a specialty in fine art black and white, natural light portraits, and making playful digital muvees of children and family special occasions. I've exhibited in the international photography expositions, Recontres International de la Photographie 2001, Aix-en-Provence, France; and FotoFest 2000, Houston, and other public and private venues.
I currently live in Houston, Texas, and can be convinced to travel practically anywhere
